Was will ich abbilden?

Was meint Ihr?

To be clear: For me there is no “one way or another” on this question. Black and white or color? I don’t ask myself this question when I’m looking at or developing a photo, but before I take a photo. It depends on. At least that’s how I feel.

When it comes to the question of whether black and white or color, for me the first question is: How do I see the picture that I want to take? What do I want to depict? And everyone has to ask themselves this question and find their own answer. Color speaks for itself and from itself. Black and white reduced to the essentials. Both have their justification. It depends on. But it’s a decision before – not after.

For me there is no either/or. Black and white photography is a completely different field for me. Here I specifically only use the (monochrome) camera to take photos in black and white. A both/and is out of the question for me because my monochrome camera doesn’t offer me any alternative (and that’s exactly why I bought it and love it).

Images I see are either black and white or color. And that’s how I take it.

In times when color photography has conquered the world (and that wasn’t that long ago, and it also went against resistance, like so many innovations), in these times we have the fabulous opportunity to choose. But we shouldn’t confuse this with arbitrary interchangeability.

I think: Black and white needs reasons… just as color needs reasons. And you have to see them and then decide before you take a picture. At least that’s how it is for me. What do you all mean?
