Streetfotografie in Berlin und anderswo…
Na dann… Vorhang auf … und die Akteure der Stadtbühne vorbeiziehen lassen.
Zu meinem Ansatz in der Streetfotografie habe ich hier bereits ein paar Worte geschrieben, auch wenn es dort um Streetfotografie und B&W geht. Auch für das Fotografieren in Farbe gilt, dass es sich um alltägliche, ungestellte Momente handelt, die kurz nach dem Hinschauen schon wieder vergangen sind, aber eingefroren im Frame überdauern. Beim Fotografieren in Farbe spielt allerdings ein ganz wesentlicher Faktor hinein: die Farben der Stadt. Und die Stadt hat verwirrend viele Farben (sogar Berlin im Winter, der ja gefühlt 8 Monate dauert). Farbe triggert… Farbe dominiert… Farbe lenkt den Blick. Da, wo sie das soll, ist es gut so. Mitunter lenkt sie den Blick aber vom Motiv weg. Und das ist dann nicht so gut… Dies gilt es auch beachten. Insofern weiß ich nicht, ob die Entscheidung für B&W oder Farbe nur reine Geschmacksache ist. Für mich bedeutet Fotografieren in Farbe ein anderes Sehen als Fotografieren in B&W.
Auch für das Fotografieren in Farbe gilt allerdings: Die Situation rund um die Streetfotografie ist in Deutschland ein heikles Thema. Die Diskussion “Haben Sie mich eben fotografiert?? Das dürfen Sie nicht!” kennen wir vermutlich alle.
Für mich sind Menschen in den Straßen Akteure im öffentlichen Raum, sie gehören genauso in die Stadt wie die Straßenmöbel, Plakatsäulen, Ampelmäste und Leuchtreklamen. Ohne Menschen würde jede Stadt zur Ghosttown.
Allerdings geht es mir in meiner Fotografie in den Straßen nicht darum, bestimmte Personen in Szene zu setzen, denn ich will den Alltag in der Stadt zeigen, indem ich die Straßen in Szene setze. Manchmal denke ich, viele Menschen nehmen sich zu wichtig, sie sind gar nicht die Hauptperson, für die sich halten mögen… die Stadt als Ganzes, zu der unter anderem auch sie gehören, spielt die Hauptrolle. Zumindest in meinen Bildern.
Street photography in Berlin…
Well then… raise the curtain… and let the actors on the city stage pass by.
I’ve already written a few words here about my approach to street photography, even if it’s about street photography and B&W. When it comes to taking photos in color, these are everyday, candid moments that are gone shortly after you look at them, but remain frozen in the frame. However, there is a very important factor that comes into play when photographing in color: the colors of the city. And the city has a confusing array of colors (even Berlin in winter, which feels like it lasts 8 months). Color triggers… Color dominates… Color directs the eye. Where it’s supposed to, it’s a good thing. But sometimes it draws the eye away from the subject. And that’s not so good… This also needs to be taken into account. In this respect, I don’t know whether the decision for B&W or color is just a matter of taste. For me, photographing in color means seeing differently than photographing in B&W.
However, the same applies to taking photos in color: The situation surrounding street photography is a sensitive topic in Germany. The discussion “Did you just take a photo of me?? You’re not allowed to do that!” We probably all know it.
For me, people in the streets are actors in public space; they belong in the city just as much as street furniture, billboards, traffic light poles and neon signs. Without people, every city would become a ghost town.
However, my photography in the streets is not about highlighting specific people, because I want to show everyday life in the city by highlighting the streets. Sometimes I think a lot of people take themselves too seriously, they aren’t the main character they think they are… the city as a whole, of which they are a part, plays the main role. At least in my pictures.
